Completely unique pre-production printer's proof, with hand-written annotations by Yang Keyang, who served as deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of Shanghai People's Fine Art Publishing House. Yang's signature can be seen on the right-hand margin, and it is likely that he made the majority of the notes, which generally comment on adjustments to colour to be made before the poster went to production.
Yang Keyang (1914-2010), from Suichang in Zhejiang, was himself a prolific woodcut printmaker. From 1937 he participated in the progressive New Woodcut Movement and was elected director of All-China Woodcut Association. After 1949 Yang was mainly involved in art editing and publishing, and held senior posts in the Shanghai People's Fine Art Publishing House.
