The newspaper headline in front of the woman fan'an bude renxin (the reversal of the verdict is not the will of the people) is from a People's Daily editorial from 3 September 1976, outlining Mao's criticisms of reactionary and rightist 'capitalist roaders' who were supposedly opposing the revolution and pushing for a restoration of capitalism.

The banner on the wall of what is presumably meant as an industrial unit or factory reads hen pi 'san xiang zhishi wei gang' (severely criticise the 'Three Instructions as Guideline' ideology) refers to Mao's accusation that Liu Shaoqi and Lin Biao were denying class struggle and favouring the capitalist goal of economic development.
