Depicting a Mao-badge-sporting industrial worker operating machinery on a production line with a long line of completed vehicles behind him, this poster compares industrial output with the revolutionary activities taking place among the sea of red flags in the background.
Despite the Cultural Revolution being primarily a political movement, its repercussions were felt widely and had great effects on the economy. Political activities of students and workers, disruptions to transport, and shortages of materials caused a drop in output across many sectors, while the placing of power and responsibility into the hands of Revolutionary Committees with little experience of the management of industry had far-reaching influences.
